Best Areas to Stay in York
York city centre is actually quite small. It is divided in two halves by the Ouse River. On the south-western side there is the Central Railway Station, with many hotels in the nearby streets.
On the north-eastern side of the river there are most of the tourist attractions, shops, and important buildings. Nevertheless, most of the important places are still within no more than 10 minutes walk from the train station. Concentration of hotels is particularly high in the streets north-west of York Royal Theatre and Stonegate shopping area and west of York University.
